John fiddled with the radio hoping to get something besides static. He couldn't move around a whole lot with the tousled brown head that was leaning against his side not wanting to risk waking his son. Normally he'd have stopped by now but there had been too many incidents at the last campground. John knew staying to close could draw all kinds of unwanted attention to little Jay.
From the moment Shannon had pressed their little boy into his arms John had known that he was going to spend the rest of his life making sure nothing happened to him. After what had happened with Luke he knew he was going to be a paranoid father and then seeing what had happened with little William because others knew he was special had kicked it into overdrive.
Jay made soft snuffling sounds in his sleep his grip tightening around his little stuffed rabbit. John smiled a little it was one of the only gifts that Shannon had left for the boy before leaving for both of their safety.
In the backseat, also asleep, lay another hero as far as John was concerned, their five month old bullmastiff puppy Sarge. Already the dog was showing great guard potential having scared off a nosey neighbor at the last campsite. He'd spoiled the dog more than a little since then. Normally Jay would have been in the back with him but he'd been scared after they took off and refused to sit anywhere with his father.
For now they were all safe and moving further and further away from anyone that might hurt them and that was going to have to be enough.
